I am currently dealing with a
I am currently dealing with a letter from a lawyer demanding almost €400 for a copyright violation involving one of the images used in the catalog. This is what I’m focused on right now.
It’s hard to understand that some still don’t see the effort required to run the catalog—surely it’s worth more than sending 5 to 8 stickers every six months. Does anyone see this differently? And seriously, who would actually want to collect without the catalog?
Those who haven’t yet earned a golden badge next to their username might want to think carefully about how they want to continue here.
P.S. It seems that as an administrator, I now also have to check whether the images being uploaded are license-free…
The issue of the copyright
The issue of the copyright violation is now more or less closed. In the end, it cost me an additional €275, which is frustrating but unavoidable. I’ve learned my lesson and will be much more careful with images in the future - ideally using only my own photos in articles.
Still, I think it’s important to say this clearly: running a catalog like this does not only involve ongoing costs and a considerable amount of time, but also real risks that are often invisible to most users. This case is a good example of that.
As I mentioned before, the idea of sharing catalog costs collectively among collectors did not work out. I hope, however, that at least the sending of stickers will work better going forward - and that fewer collectors will continue to treat the catalog as something that can simply be used entirely for free, without any form of contribution or appreciation.
